Ed received his BS in Pharmacy from Temple University, and later earned his MBA from Temple University Fox School of Business. He is a former Fellow of the Wharton School and Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, University of Pennsylvania. He received an honorary Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the State of Oklahoma. Ed is a licensed pharmacist in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. He has over 40 years of retailing and professional experience, with strong expertise in pharmacy operations, administration, regulatory compliance, and technology.
Prior to his consultancy business Ed was Vice President of Pharmacy for Chain Drug Consortium (CDC), where he provided consolidated pharmacy services and business expertise to the consortium members and their 1,000+ stores for over five years. Prior to working for CDC, he was Vice President of Pharmacy at Drug Fair, a regional drug store chain that was acquired by Walgreens. Ed had a long and distinguished career at Pathmark Stores, Inc., a regional supermarket chain with over one hundred thirty pharmacies, his last position being Director of Pharmacy.
Ed was a member of the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy from 2000 to 2017. He is a former member and officer of the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (“NABP”). He served as Chairman, President, President-Elect and Treasurer, and a three-year member term representing District 2. He has served on several NABP task forces and committees.
Other current professional affiliations include membership in the American Pharmacists Association, National Community Pharmacists Association and New Jersey Pharmacist Association.
He is the 2015 New Jersey recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award in recognition of his outstanding community service, Temple University Pharmacy Alumni Association’s 2017 Joseph B. Sprowls Distinguished Lecturer Award recipient, and a 2017 inductee in the Temple University Gallery of Success in recognition of his professional achievements.
Tom is a graduate of Rutgers University’s College of Pharmacy. He has been a practicing Pharmacist for over forty years. His primary areas of expertise are retail pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, administration and compounding.
Tom was an independent retail pharmacy owner for most of his professional career, having owned multiple pharmacies in New Jersey. He has extensive experience in the chain drug store sector as well. As a result of working in the retail pharmacy market, he is well versed in the challenges that present in today’s marketplace.
Tom was a member of the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy from 2005 until 2017, having served in the capacities of Vice President and President, as well as on numerous committees, most notably, the Rules and Regulations Committee where he actively participated in the promulgation of rules and regulations for compounding, immunizations and collaborative practice. He is also an active member of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), having served on numerous task forces and chairing the committee on resolutions.
Tom was a member of USP’s expert committee on Packaging, Storage and Distribution from 2000-2005. He has been active in many professional organizations and has served on the Boards of the New Jersey Pharmacists Association and the Garden State Pharmacy Owner’s Association.
Tom is the 2017 New Jersey recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award in recognition of his outstanding community service, and was the New Jersey Council of Chain Drug Stores’ Pharmacist of the Year in 2014.
